The Vermicelli, Beef And Thai Basil Salad Recipe

Preparation times 20 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients for the vermicelli, beef and thai basil salad recipe:

125 g (4 oz.) dried rice vermicelli
600 g (1 1/4lb) rump steak
oil, for cooking
2-3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1 small red chilli, finely chopped
1 small red capsicum, thinly sliced
1 red onion, thinly sliced
1 cup (30 g/1 oz.) coriander leaves
1 cup (30 g/1 oz) Thai basil leaves or green basil leaves

Dressing for the vermicelli, beef and thai basil salad recipe:

1-2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 red chilli, chopped
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon fish sauce
3 tablespoons grated palm sugar

Directions for the vermicelli, beef and thai basil salad recipe:

1. Soak the noodles in hot water for 5 minutes, or until soft, Drain,

2. Combine the dressing ingredients) mix well and set aside,

3. Thinly slice the beef across the grain, Heat the wok until very hot, add 1 tablespoon of the oil and swirl it around to coat the side, Stir-fry the beef in 2 — 3 batches for 2 minutes, or until just brown, yet still pink in patches. (Ensure the wok is hot before each addition.) Remove all the beef and set aside.

4. Heat another tablespoon of oil in the wok, then stir-fry the garlic, chilli, capsicum and onion for 2-3 minutes, or until soft but not browned.

5. Add the beef to the wok to just heat through quickly, then toss the mixture through the vermicelli. Pour on the dressing, and toss through the coriander and Thai basil leaves.

Baked Fish and Vegetables for Two

This baked fish and vegetable dinner is a one dish meal for two. Accompaniments might include a nice potato salad, as it did here, or possibly cole slaw, or a simple tossed salad with lots of greens.

The dinner was made with two wild caught salmon fillets (about 2 ounces each) and the portions are about right for 2 people. The recipe could easily be doubled to serve 4. The fish I chose was salmon, but you could easily substitute whitefish, flounder, haddock, or others. Since the recipe was actually designed by modifying a chicken breast recipe, you could also substitute chicken or turkey breast fillets.

A thin fillet would be preferable in any case because of the shorter cooking time.

Salmon Vegetable Bake with Cheese

2 wild caught salmon fillets (thawed)

zest from one orange

1 celery rib(cut into matchsticks)

1 medium carrot(cut into matchsticks)

1 medium onion, chopped

1 teaspoon oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

5 tablespoon olive oil

2 slices of Swiss, longhorn, or American cheese

After cutting the celery and carrots into matchsticks and chopping the onion, saute’ these in 3 tablespoons of the olive oil. In the meantime, zest the orange, and rinse and pat the salmon fillets dry. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, then grease a baking dish or metal cookie pan.

Place the fish fillets on the pan, then place half the cooked vegetables on top of each fillet. After mixing the salt, oregano and orange zest, sprinkle about half the mixture on top of the vegetable mixture on each fillet. Drizzle the 2 remaining tablespoos of olive oil over the top of each, then place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 7 minutes, or until the fish fillets flake easily. Remove from the oven and place a slice of cheese over each fillet, then return to the oven just long enough to melt the cheese (about 5 minutes).

The midnight mass celebration is conducted on Christmas Eve. In Christian churches of the west . Christmas services held on evenings or late afternoons preceding Christmas Eve are considered a beginning to the celebration of the Christmas season. Churches all over the world celebrate midnight mass. Though the nature of the church services during midnight mass may vary slightly as per the various faiths within Christianity. The catholic churches hold a candle service during mass whereas protestant churches may conduct prayer services on the eve of Christmas. Some churches even organize nativity plays. A nativity play is a re-enactment or recreation of the story of Jesus Christ’s birth.

Family Time
Christmas Eve is also known by the term ‘Good Night’ in relation to the celebrations that go on during this evening right upto midnight. People the world over consider this a time to be spent with family and friends and celebrate with lots of music, dancing and food.

Christmas Feast
The meal on the Eve of Christmas varies in the menu and in the traditions associated with it. Though there are some basic items on the menu, but there are also different specialties prepared on Christmas in different parts of the world. Generally preparations of turkey, fish, chicken, salads and other varieties are prepared. It also includes Christmas cake and desserts in the form of Christmas puddings.

Exchanging Gifts
In many countries Christmas gifts are exchanged on this occasion, though this tradition differs in relation to gift givers and the time of giving or opening gifts. In many countries Santa Claus is believed to visit on the night of the Christmas to stuff the stockings hung near the fireplace with presents. Some people consider Baby Jesus as the one giving presents and that too weeks before the Eve. Though in some countries like US and UK gifts are opened on Christmas morning.

These are some of the aspects of Christmas Eve celebrations. No matter how varied the ways of celebrating, the reason remains the same and it always will. And all these traditions reinforce the reason everyone celebrates Christmas.

1/8 teaspoon dried minced onion flakes

1/4 teaspoon curry powder

1 tablespoon dried parsley

1 teaspoon dried dill weed

1 pinch garlic powder

Directions

In a medium bowl, stir together the tuna, mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, and onion flakes. Add in the curry powder, parsley, dill weed and garlic powder.

Mix well and serve with crackers or as a sandwich.

You can do a lot more with tuna salad than make sandwiches. This healthy recipe features albacore tuna, fresh green beans, Northern beans, black olives and hard boiled eggs.

3/4 pound green beans, trimmed and snapped in half

1 (12 oz.) can solid white albacore tuna, drained

1 (16 oz.) can Great Northern beans, drained and rinsed

1 (2.25 oz.) can sliced black olives, drained

1/4 medium red onion, thinly sliced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

3 tablespoons lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest

Salt and pepper to taste

4 large hard cooked eggs, peeled and quartered

Directions

Place green beans, 1/3 cup water and a large pinch of salt into a medium skillet. Cover, turn heat on high and bring water to a boil.

Once the beans start to steam, set the timer and cook until tender and crisp (about 5 minutes. Note: do not let the skillet run dry). Immediately dump the beans into a lipped cookie sheet that is lined with paper towels. Let cool.

In a bowl, combine the tuna, olives and onion.

In another bowl, whisk together the oregano, oil, lemon juice and zest. Pour over the tuna mixture; gently stirring. Add salt and pepper to taste. Arrange a portion of the tuna salad, green beans and hard cooked eggs onto 4 plates.

2 c. salmon

2 Tb. vinegar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. pepper

1 Tb. gelatine

1-1/2 c. boiling water

Procedures:

First get rid off all skin and bones from the salmon when it is taken from the can, and mince it thoroughly with a fork. Add the mixed vinegar, salt, and pepper. Prepare the gelatine by dissolving it in the boiling water. Add the seasoned salmon to the prepared gelatine. With cold water, wet a ring-shaped mold having an open space in the center. Pour the salmon and gelatine mixture into this mold, and allow it to stand until it solidifies. Arrange a bed of lettuce leaves on a chop plate, turn the mold out on this, and fill the center with dressing. Serve at once. Sufficient to serve six.

Second, the Salmon Patties Recipe.

SALMON PATTIES

Salmon patties are usually made from salmon by combining it with bread crumbs and using a thick white sauce to hold the ingredients together. You can either sauted them in shallow fat or fried in deep fat.

Ingredients:

2 c. finely minced salmon

1 c. fresh bread crumbs

1 c. thick white sauce

1/2 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. pepper

Dry bread crumbs

Procedures:

First step is to mix the fresh bread crumbs and the white sauce with the salmon. Season with salt and pepper and shape into round patties, roll in the dry bread crumbs, and fry in deep fat or saute in shallow fat. Serve hot with or without sauce.

Third, the Salmon Loaf Recipe.

SALMON TIMBALE OR LOAF

Ingredients:

1 can salmon

1 cupful soft bread crumbs

1 1/2 teaspoonfuls chopped parsley

1/2 teaspoonful salt

Pepper

1 or 2 eggs

1 tablespoonful lemon juice

1/4 to 1/2 cupful milk

Procedures;

Combine all the ingredients thoroughly, adding enough milk to moisten. Then pour into buttered timbale molds or into one bowl. Place on a rack in a pan, surround with hot water, and cover. Bake in the oven or cook on top of the range until the fish mixture is firm and is heated thoroughly. Turn out, and serve with White Sauce to which chopped parsley has been added. Peas in White Sauce make a pleasing addition to Salmon Timbale. Tuna fish or other cooked fish may be used instead of salmon.
