How To Grill Trout Recipe

I love this recipe, and I learned it while traveling to Key West one summer. This recipe is easy and very tasty with a little spicy kick. Trout is very healthy for you and I recommend that you cook it with the skin on. It is small in size which means it will cook very quickly. The oils from the skin add great flavor to the fish and allow the meat to stay very moist.

 

 

When buying trout, make sure that the meat of the fish is nice and white. Also make sure the skin is not slimy. If you want to use a whole trout with the head still on, like a rainbow trout or even a sea trout, make sure that the eyes of the fish are not glazed over. A fresh fish will have clear eyes and the skin will be smooth and not sticky.

 

 

Here is the recipe:

 

Ingredients:

1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoon unsalted butter — melted
2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoon parsley — chopped
2 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
1 tablespoon hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 trout — about 1 pound each (sea trout, brook trout, rainbow trout)

Instructions:

In shallow dish, combine lemon juice, butter, oil, parsley, sesame seeds, hot sauce, ginger and salt; mix well. Pierce skin of fish in several places with tines of fork. Roll fish in juice mixture to coat inside and out. Cover. Refrigerate 30 minutes to 1 hour, turning occasionally. Remove fish from marinade; reserve marinade.

Place the fish on a very hot grill that has been oiled down. Cook the fish on one side for 3 minutes and turn. Let the fish cook for another three minutes and remove from grill. Place the fish on baking sheet and pour reserve marinade on top. Finish in the oven on 325 degrees for 5 minutes.

Paleo Fish Recipes ? Here’s a Step-by-Step Recipe for Making Grilled Rainbow Trout with Salsa

Looking for some decent paleo fish recipes? Tell you what…I have this really sumptuous paleo diet style fish recipe, so let me give you the low down on how to do it.

You know, I would love to share a few more delicious paleo diet recipes, but I’m unable to do so here because of space constraint…

Some of my favorite paleo fish recipes are baked salmon with pistachio, lemon and chili as well as Tuna potato patties.

My little nephew absolutely loves the latter! The following recipe has also been added to my favorite list and the best part is… I just learned how to do it only a few days ago. I had the whole process down pat from the get-go!

But I had step-by-step instructions on how to do it though. I just followed the instructions outlined in some download only Paleolithic diet cookbooks.

They have all kinds of recipes in there including paleo fish recipes. So far, I’ve only tried a handful of recipes from the digital cookbooks and they all turned out alright.

Okay without further ado, let’s buckle up and learn how to make grilled rainbow trout with salsa – paleo style!

Fish Fillet Ingredients

2 large rainbow trout fillets
2 tsp of ground black pepper
A small handful of fresh dill
4 cloves of garlic
½ cup of lemon juice
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
A small handful of parsley

Salsa Gravy Ingredients

1 diced avocado
2 tbs of apple cider vinegar
1 cup of cherry tomatoes, halved
1 bunch of finely chopped parsley
1 tbs extra virgin olive oil
1 diced red capsicum

Cooking the Fish Fillets

1.    Sauté garlic with a tsp of  olive oil
2.    Place fillets in an oven bowl. Next, rub the fillets with parsley, dill, lemon juice, sautéed garlic and black pepper.
3. Cover then place in the fridge for about 40 minutes.
4.    Pre-heat oven to about 180 degrees C
5. Place oven bowl containing fish fillets in the oven and bake until flesh flakes easily with a fork.

Preparing the Salsa Gravy

1. Plop all ingredients in a bowl.
2. Mix up the ingredients well.

A freshly caught fish can be cooked in a thousand and one ways. Any fisherman worth his salt has his own unique way of cooking a freshly caught trout, salmon or whatever fish he caught. So fisherman all across the country has been handed down methods of cooking fish. Here are some tips to get the best out of your fish.

1.Frying

Breading and frying a freshly caught fish is as good as it gets. The smell of butter emanating from the frying pan and the flair a fisherman puts in flipping his catch is worth its weight in gold, almost. For the novice fisherman, make sure that the butter is extra hot but not yet burning. Also, make sure that the fish is well coated in batter. Season your batter to your heart’s content, salt and pepper never goes wrong. You may want to try other herbs and spices with the batter for a more delicious fish.

2.Grilling

At first glance, grilling would seem to be the easiest way to handle your fish. A newbie might assume that grilling fish is the same as grilling steaks or burgers. Unlike fowl or cattle, fish tends to secret most of its own juices when cooked. On a grill the delicious juice drips into the coals.

To prevent losing the moisture, first coat the fish with oil. The oil will seal a part of the moisture inside. Second, keep an eye on the fillets and turn them as soon as a cut would reveal that the fresh fish is cooked halfway through. After being flipped, watch the fish carefully. Remove the fish as soon as it is cooked through.

An option to basting the fish with oil is to wrap it in aluminum foil. The aluminum foil will keep the moisture and marinate the fish in its own moisture. Placing herbs and spices inside the foil with the fish enhances the grilling process and the fish itself.

3.Baking

Baking is the best option for the fisherman who does not want to watch over the fish during cooking. The fisherman can prepare the marinade and pre-heat the oven, then pop the fish into the oven for a predetermined amount of time. You may want to check on the fish from the time to time, ensuring that you don’t overcook the fish.

Whatever fish you caught, a good recipe and proper cooking will for sure enhance the catch. Take time to prepare for cooking, a badly cooked fish will no doubt spoil your day. Remember the first rule of cooking, don’t overcook your fish.
